Dish Gardens with Fresh Cut Flowers for a Funeral Service in Walnut Creek, CA

I designed this set of 3 dish gardens with fresh cut flowers for a funeral service in Walnut Creek. A dish garden is a garden of live plants in a dish or bowl. Compared to cut flowers which typically last 5-7 days, live plants are far more long lasting if they are taken care of properly. The two identical ones are in 8″ baskets, and the one with orange flowers is in a 12″ basket. I chose Kalanchoes for all 3 baskets, and added a Peace Lily for the large one. The plants were purchased 2 weeks prior to the event and conditioned to maximize their beauty and health. With the extra time, the Kalanchoes were in full bloom when they went in the dish gardens. In addition to the live plants, I used carnations and multiple foliage some of which came from my own garden.

Due to the pandemic, the funeral service at the church was kept small but it was live-streamed so that people who could not come were able to attend the service. After the service, each family member took the arrangement home.
